Guest Blog from Rebecca at Little Munch.

As the Little Munch family, the majority of places that we go for our children to have a positive play experience, more often than not involve a café/restaurant being close by! Luckily in Sydney there are so many eateries that have play areas for kids, and here’s a list of some of our favourites:

Blacktown Showground Precinct & The Grounds Keeper Café – Blacktown

The Blacktown Showground precinct, has both an excellent playground and water play area. Children have so much room to play and explore here, whilst you enjoy an excellent coffee (either sit or takeaway) from The Grounds Keeper Café. There’s also a community garden which has fascinating vegies and herbs in it, as well as basketball courts and other sporting facilities. There is another Grounds Keeper Café in Ryde as well, which is located in Ryde Park, and there’s also a playground right next to the café.

Museum of Contemporary Art – Circular Quay

I’m a firm believer that children should be exposed to art from an early age. The Museum of Contemporary Art is also an advocate of this philosophy. They host regular art workshops and tours for children during the week, as well as in school holidays. And when the belly starts to rumble, make sure you head to their rooftop café, which has a kids menu and lovely views over the harbour.

Darling Quarter Playground & Cafes – Darling Harbour

We are so lucky to have such an excellent playground right in the heart of our city centre. This large playground has loads of exciting spaces to explore, including a water play area. And the best bit is that there are loads of cafes and other eateries located right next to it, for parents to caffeinate themselves at.

Livvi’s Playground & Café – Five Dock

The flagship café and playground from the brilliant Touched by Olivia Foundation, is a firm favourite of ours, as it is completely accessible for children of all ages, needs and abilities. And of course there is a sweet little café/kiosk right next to the playground, that serves up excellent Campos Coffee, and free babycinos for a High 5 from your little people!

Blaxland Riverside Park & Armory Wharf Café – Newington

We believe that this is Sydney’s best playground, as you can spend a whole day exploring and playing in ever y square inch of it. The playground area is so well spread out, and there is equipment for most ages and abilities. There are also excellent cycling tracks, and a large water splash area as well. Afterwards you can treat yourself to some tasty tucker at the Armory Wharf Café, which is located down on the riverbank from the play areas.

Eden Gardens & Dragonfly Cafe – North Ryde

This sprawling nursery is a great place to see how Mother Nature works, as it has lovely gardens, kids gardening classes, a fort to climb, intriguing garden art, a playground and even some chooks! The onsite Dragonfly Café is very popular, and is a great place to recharge the batteries after your wanders.

Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability & the Coal Loader Café – Waverton

We love visiting this space not only because it serves yummy food and well made coffee in the cafe, but also because it is in the middle of a Centre for Sustainability, so there are vegie patches for the children to explore, and animals such as chooks to feed. There are also family friendly bushwalks close by and interesting sculptures to find throughout the grounds.
